Maria Gilbert

Maria Gilbert, MA (Clin Psych), BA (Hons English), Visiting Professor at Middlesex University.

Qualifications BA Hons (English) University of Natal, SA (1959); BA Hons Psychology (with distinction) University of South Africa (April 1974); MA Clinical Psychology (Cum Laude), Rand Afrikaans University, South Africa (1975).

Programme Leader MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy, Faculty Head of Applied Psychology, Psychotherapy and Counselling.

Maria has extensive experience in adult education and in the training of psychological therapists. She has been in private practice since 1976 and currently works as a psychotherapist, coach, supervisor and trainer of coaches, psychotherapists and supervisors. She has worked as a consultant in organisations in South Africa and in the United Kingdom. She is Joint Head (with Vanja Orlans) of the Integrative Department of the Metanoia Institute.

She is a Programme Leader with Simon Cavicchia on the MA/MSc in Coaching Psychology. She is an APECS accredited Executive Coach and she is registered as an Integrative Psychotherapist with the UK Council for Psychotherapy, holds the European Certificate of Psychotherapy, is a Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst (with clinical speciality) of the ITAA, a BACP accredited supervisor, a BPS Chartered Psychologist, a Registered Clinical Psychologist (HPC), and an Accredited Member of the Society of Coaching Psychology. She has co-authored a manual entitled “On Becoming an Executive Coachee: Creating Learning Partnerships” with Michael Carroll.

In Maria's own words

"I have been employed at Metanoia Institute since 1986 teaching and running training programmes.With two colleagues I was instrumental in setting up the Integrative Psychotherapy Course which has been running successfully since the early 90’s. It has been a great pleasure for me to see Metanoia developing from a small institute with 60 trainees to where we are today. I concurrently run a private practice at my home for part of the week in which I see psychotherapy clients and coachees, offer psychotherapy and coaching supervision and supervision of supervision."

Professional Registrations - UKCP registered Integrative Psychotherapist, a Chartered Psychologist (BPS), a Registered Clinical Psychologist (HCPC), an APECS Accredited Executive Coach, a BACP Senior accredited supervisor.

Previous Employment - Teacher of English Literature in secondary school and at University level. Practising as a Clinical Psychologist in South Africa for 10 years prior to coming to the UK.
