Equality and Diversity Events
Metanoia Institute participates in events and activities that celebrate inclusivity, diversity and/or that challenge oppressive practices. We also produce a newsletter at least twice a year, sometimes more often which lets students and staff across the institute, know about the work of the committee and disseminates information about any upcoming events or news.
During the 2017/18 academic year, these included attendance at the annual Gay Pride march; running a refuge campaign and promoting the ‘memorandum of understanding on conversion therapy.’
We are busy planning our attendance at Pride this year, see below for details of this and to run another refugee campaign (details coming soon). We also plan to celebrate inspirational people who have done much to challenge oppression and oppressive practices by posting a short write up of them and their achievements and placing these on the Equality and Diversity Noticeboard found in the kitchen at our North Common Road campus.
PRIDE 2018 Sat 7th July 2018
The Equality and Diversity Committee will be supporting students and staff to march at the LGBT+ Pride event again this year. It is a fun social event. We have brunch first and drinks after.
Lucy Watt, a member of the Equality and Diversity committee is co-ordinating the event and is looking for interested students and staff to join a small working party to plan Metanoia’s attendance. She can be contacted on lucy.e.watt@gmail.com.
She would also like to run a workshop in advance of the event where interested students and staff can think about what LGBT+ Pride and being counsellors / trainees at Metanoia means to us and how we would like to represent ourselves on the day.
